SynopsisSongs from Thailand

Jeff was a lecturer in "Song Composition" and "Oriental Music" in the Music Department, Kansas State University. His fiancé, Rose, left him for another man. He was in such a distress that a psychiatrist recommended that he spent sometimes away from Kansas where his memory of Rose would disturb him badly. He contacted his Thaifriend Wanchai who was the director of Thai Music Institute, North-Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai. Jeff and Wanchai were classmates while they were studying for Master degree in music at UCLA. Wanchai arranged to have Jeff working in the project to compose songs, in English, for beautiful places of Thailand. Jeff got the permission from the university to have a sabbatical leave for six months. He traveled to Chaing Mai Thailand. In Thailand, Jeff formed a team to write the songs. To get outsiders' views of Thailand, all team members were foreigners: a German, a Japanese, and a Chinese. The team included an Australian male singer, Allen, and a Thai-American female singer, Sarah. Starting from Chiang Mai, they traveled to places of Thailand in a special tour coach with Wanchai as coordinator. They eventually wrote songs about Chiang Mai, Ubon, Pattaya, Bangkok, and Phuket. During the long trip, Jeff gradually became closer to Sarah. Phuket was the last destination for the team. They stayed in the hotel on the lovely Kata Beach. Jeff and Sarah developed their love on this beach. Before the team would fly back to Chiang Mai, Jeff learned that Sarah had been engaged to Peter who was working for his master degree at the University of Birmingham, England. With a conscience from his own heart breaking experience, Jeff did not want to hurt Peter and decided to go back to Kansas.

Assistant Director and leading actors wanted

This is a low budget film of an independent producer. We are looking for talented new comers in the movie production, with some experience. Mainly, we want the three following persons:

1. One assistant director: Experience in directing, American, Australian.
2. One leading male role (Jeff): American, around 30 years old. He should look like a violinist and a teacher. He should be very handsome around 6 feet tall. He should be a gentle, soft speaking person. It will be an asset if he has played some minor role in some well known movie.
3. One leading female role(Sarah): Half-Caucasian Oriental, 23 years old. She should look like a primary school teacher and part-time singer. She should be very beautiful and charming. No acting experience is O.K. Ability to sing will be an asset.
4. One male supporting role (Allen): American, or Australian around 26 years old. He should be 2-3 inches shorter than Jeff. He will sing many songs in this movie. Therefore, ability to sing is important. He is very good in many sports, including tennis and swimming. He is a good nature person but a bit of arrogance. He loves to ride on his Harley Davidson. Acting experience is less important than his ability to sing.

The compensation

All three are expected to stay in Thailand for two months, November-December, 2009. Each will be provided with an economy round-trip tickets to and from Thailand. While in Thailand, they shall be provided free accommodation. The filming will mostly be in Chiang Mai, the most beautiful city of Thailand. They shall be paid around US$ 20,000 each. Beside, they shall have the right to get a portion the money received from releasing agency for the US market. The amount of the royalty is negotiable, depending on the experience and quality of each person.

ภาษาอังกฤษมีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่งสำหรับนักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยในสามด้านใหญ่ คือ

1. ด้านการเรียน เพราะตำราส่วนหนึ่งเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ และมีวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเป็นวิชาพื้นฐานที่ท่านต้องสอบให้ได้คะแนนดี เมื่อจบปริญญาตรีไปแล้วจะต่อปริญญาโท ก็ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการเรียนมากขึ้น และถึงระดับปริญญาเอกนั้นถ้าภาษาอังกฤษไม่ดีมากก็ยากที่จบได้
2. ด้านการใช้ชีวิตส่วนตัว ข่าวสารที่เข้ามาในโลกของ Internet ในความก้าวหน้าของ Information Technology จะเข้ามาในรูปของภาษาอังกฤษ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความบันเทิง กีฬา ข่าว 3. ด้านการทำงานเมื่อจบการศึกษาแล้วคนที่ภาษาอังกฤษดีจะมีความสำคัญกว่าคนอื่นที่ความรู้และประสบการณ์ในการทำงานเท่า ๆ กัน

อุปสรรคในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษของคนไทย สาเหตุที่ทำให้เราเข้าใจภาษาอังกฤษน้อยทั้ง ๆ ที่เรียนมาหลายปีมีสาเหตุสำคัญที่สุดสองประการคือ

1. ระบบการออกเสียงของภาษาต่างกันมาก กล่าวคือ ภาษาไทยนั้นคำเดียวกันถ้าระดับเสียงเปลี่ยนความหมายจะเปลี่ยน แต่ภาษาอังกฤษนั้น คำเดียวกันความหมายจะเหมือนเดิมไม่ว่าจะพูดด้วยระดับเสียงใด ตัวอย่างคำไทยก็เช่น ปา ป่า ป้า ป๊า ป๋า(เสียงสามัญ เอก โท ตรี จัตวา) ส่วนอังกฤษนั้น คำ “boy” จะแปลว่าเด็กชายไม่ว่าจะออกเสียง “บอย” หรือ “บ่อย” หรือ “บ้อย” หรือ “บ๊อย” หรือ “บ๋อย” ในคำที่มีสองพยางค์ขึ้นไป ก็เช่นกันสำหรับคำไทยที่ออกเสียงผิด ความหมายก็จะผิดไปเช่น คำว่า บุญมา ถ้าออกเสียงว่า “บุญม้า” หรือ “บุญหมา” ความหมายจะเปลียนไป แต่ภาษาอังกฤษ เช่นคำว่า nation จะออกเสียงว่า เนชั่น หรือ เน้ฉั่น หรือ เนชั้น ความหมายก็ไม่เปลี่ยนไป
2. ระบบการเขียนภาษาไทย สืบเนื่องจากเหตุผลข้อ 1. ระบบการเขียนภาษาไทยจึงต้องมีวิธีบอกระดับของเสียงที่จะออกไว้ด้วย ซึ่งการบอกระดับเสียงของภาษาเขียนนั้นโดยตัวช่วย 2 ตัวช่วย คือ ตัวช่วย 1.ระดับเสียงของพยัญชนะ เช่น “มา” ออกเสียงสามัญ แต่คำ “หา” ออกเสียงจัตวา ทั้ง ๆ ที่ทั้งสองคำใช้สระอา เหมือนกัน ตัวช่วย 2.คือวรรณยุกต์ เช่นเมื่อใส่ไม้โทบนคำว่ามา ก็จะกลายเป็น “ม้า”ซึ่งออกเสียงตรี และมีความหมายต่างจาก”มา” เมื่อใส่ไม้โทบนคำว่า หา ก็จะกลายเป็น “ห้า” ซึ่งออกเสียงโทและมีความหมายต่างจากคำว่า “หา” แต่ภาษาอังกฤษไม่ใช้วรรณยุกต์และระดับเสียงของพยัญชนะแบบของภาษาไทย คำอ่านของภาษาอังกฤษจึงไม่ได้บอกว่าจะออกเสียงอย่างไร ซึ่งประเด็นนี้ระบบการเขียนภาษาไทยของเรานับว่ายอดเยี่ยม
3. ระบบการออกเสียงของภาษาอังกฤษ ภาษาพูดของภาษาอังกฤษเกินหนึ่งพยางค์นั้น เพื่อให้ฟังง่ายเขาจะทำให้ระดับเสียงของคำต่าง ๆ ในพยางค์เดียวกันมีระดับเสียงต่างกันโดยที่ไม่มีกฎเกณฑ์ตายตัว แต่คนของเขารู้ว่าจะออกเสียงอย่างไรจากการได้พูด ได้ฟังอยู่หลาย ๆ ครั้ง ที่พอสังเกตได้คือในคำที่มีสองพยางค์ นั้น จะมีพยางค์หนึ่งที่เป็นเสียงตรี(เสียงระดับเดียวกับคำ “ไม้”) หนึ่งคำ และเสียง เอก(เสียงเดียวกับคำว่า “ดอก”) ซึ่งบางครั้งก็เอาเสียงตรีขึ้นก่อน เช่น คำว่า nation ซึ่งแปลว่าชาติ ออกเสียงว่า (เน้-ฉั่น) คือเอาเสียงตรีขึ้นก่อน ตามด้วยเสียงเอก ส่วนคำ return ซึ่งแปลว่ากลับ นั้นออกเสียงว่า (หริ-เทิ้น) คือเอกเสียงเอกขึ้นก่อน และตามด้วยเสียงตรี ปัญหาก็คือไม่มีระบบตายตัวว่าจะออกเสียงตรีที่หน้าหรือหลัง แต่เขาใช้ได้เพราะพูดและฟังมาซ้ำ ๆ กัน และออกเสียงอย่างไรความหมายก็ไม่เปลี่ยน ต่ลำบากสำหรับคนไทยซึ่งมีระบบวรรณยุกต์และเสียงของพยัญชนะบังคับการออกเสียงคำเขียนเข้าไว้ ยิ่งถ้าเป็นคำเกินสองพยางค์ขึ้นไปปัญหาของการออกเสียงสำหรับคนไทยจึงยากขึ้นไปอีกเช่นคำที่เป็นสามพยางค์นั้น ก็มีทั้งที่ออกเสียงตรีคำแรกเช่นคำ uniform หรือออกเสียงตรีคำที่สองเช่น October หรือออกเสียงตรีคำที่สามเช่น engineer
4. การเน้นระดับเสียงของภาษาอังกฤษ ถ้าเป็นคำตั้งแต่สองพยางค์ขึ้นไปในภาษาอังกฤษจะมีพยางค์ที่ออกเสียงตรีอยู่พยางค์เดียวเท่านั้น ส่วนพยางค์อื่นจะเป็นเสียงสามัญและเสียงเอก เท่ากับว่าเขามีกฎตายตัวอยู่หนึ่งข้อนั่นคือในคำที่มีเกินหนึ่งพยางค์จะต้องมีเสียงที่สุดอยู่เพียง หนึ่งพยางค์เป็นเสียงตรี พวกเขารู้ว่าจะออกเสียงตรีพยางค์ใดจากการใช้ซ้ำ ๆ เช่น คำสี่พยางค์อาจจะออกเสียงตรีพยางค์แรก เช่น dictionary หรือออกเสียงตรีคำที่สาม เช่น information คำที่พวกเขาไม่เคยฟังมาก่อนเขาก็จะมีปัญหาในการที่จะออกเสียงตรี ที่พยางค์ใด วิธีที่จะช่วยก็คือในพจนานุกรมของเขาจะใช้เส้นเอ็นขีดไว้ที่พยางค์ที่เขาจะต้องเน้นให้เป็นเสียงตรี ซึ่งเขาเรียกว่า stress mark เช่นคำว่า information เขาจะใส่คล้ายไม้เอกแต่เอนไปข้างหลังอยู่ก่อนคำที่สามคือ ma เพื่อบอกให้รู้ว่าให้ออกเสียงเน้นหรือเสียงตรี ที่คำนี้ แต่การใช้ stress mark นี้คนไทยไม่เคยชินเราเลยไม่ใช้เป็นประโยชน์ในการออกเสียง ผลที่ตามมาคือเราออกเสียงผิด เพราะภาษาเขียนของเขา ไม่มีระบบการกำหนดระดับการออกเสียงเหมือนของเรา และเราก็ไม่ได้เรียนคำจากการฟังและพูดก่อน แต่เราเรียนภาษาอังกฤษจากการท่องศัพท์ ซึ่งเราเน้นคำแปลอย่างเดียวไม่เน้นว่าต้องออกเสียงให้ถูกด้วย เราจะไปอาศัยภาษาเขียนเพื่อจะได้รู้การออกเสียงที่ถูกก็ทำไม่ได้ เรารู้ศัพท์มาก เรียนภาษาอังกฤษมาหลายปี ท่องไวยากรณ์ได้เก่งกว่าคนของเขา แต่ฟังเขาพูดเข้าใจได้ไม่มาก และเวลาจะพูดก็ไม่แน่ใจว่าเขาจะเข้าใจเราหรือไม่ นี่คือปัญหาใหญ่และสาเหตุของปัญหาของเรา

6. ความแตกต่างในประเด็นอื่น ความแตกต่างในการมีคำเน้นเสียงของภาษาอังกฤษ และระดับของเสียงที่กล่าวมานี้เป็นประเด็นสำคัญของความแตกต่างต่อก็ยังมีความแตกต่างในประเด็นปลีกย่อยอีก ซึ่งได้กล่าวไว้ในพจนานุกรมฉบับนี้ โดยได้ได้อธิบายไว้ในภาคผนวกถึง 9 หน้า เช่นการออกเสียง ตัว “p” “t” “th” เป็นต้น ผู้แต่งจึงมีความมั่นใจอย่างสูงว่านักศึกษาไทย รวมทั้งครูผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษ จะได้ประโยชน์คุ้มค่าจากพจนานุกรมนี้

Face and pyramid on Mars interpretation

On page 244-245 of the book "Souls and the Universe", I wrote that at some point in time in the future, some human beings will realize that eventually all living things will die; and, after some millions of years, all things constructed by human beings will be destroyed by the forces of nature. Some of them will think that they should leave some information about things on our planet Earth for those from other planets. Therefore they will try to find the storage method that can last millions of years. They will use durable material to store the information. The style of the storage building will be the one that will best survive the dust and natural destruction. Also they will leave some signs that can lead people from other planet to locate the storage place easily. Then I wrote:

Probably human beings on Mars had kept some record for us the way I described above. At the beginning of the year 2001 when this book is first published in English, there is no sign of living things on Mars as yet. However, I strongly believe that once there were human beings like us on Mars many hundreds of millions of years ago. I shall make predictions concerning future discoveries on Mars as follows:

1. With in the first half of the 21st century, human beings on Earth will have plenty of evidence showing that once there were human beings on Mars. They will also have discovered the places that the Martians kept the information about themselves for us.
2. In their message, we shall find that the evolution of living things and human being on Mars was very much like that or ours.

As of the face and the pyramid on mars, my interpretation based on the above analytical framework will be as followed:

1. The Pyramid is the place where Martians kept the records for us. It was built in pyramidal style because it is the best style that will survive the dust and natural destruction.
2. The Face, looking up into the sky, was meant to tell visitors that this work was by human beings. It is not the same as Egyptian sphinx which was constructed vertically. The sphinx face looks straight ahead on the horizon.

Pictures of the Face on Mars taken at different time: 1976, 1998, 2001. Those who constructed the face, I believe, wanted to tell us that "Look here, it is the place we kept our stories for you, good luck." 

The area which the Face and pyramids were discovered on Mars(NASA). The Face is on the top. The tallest Pyramid is on the bottom right. Look at the shapes of both the Face and the pyramid, it is highly that they were constructed by human beings like us. The Face was to attract attention from outer space. The pyramid must be the place they kept their stories. Both structures might be sculpted from hard rock mountains, such as granite, at original sites. The picture of a pyramid. Symmetry of all sides proved that it was constructed by human beings like us. The large base made it possible to endure natural calamity. The pointed top made it hard for the dust to cover it.

ยานที่มนุษย์ส่งไปถ่ายรูปดาวอังคารได้ส่งรูปมาเพิ่มมากขึ้นเรื่อย ที่น่าสนใจก็คือรูปถ่ายหินที่ดูคล้ายหน้าคน หนึ่งหน้า เป็นหน้าที่คล้ายคนนอนหงายมองขึ้นท้องฟ้า และไม่ห่างกันมากมีหินที่มีรูปทรงคล้ายปิรามิดอยู่ ดังภาพ 3 ภาพ ที่นำมาแสดงไว้

ผู้เขียนได้เขียนความเห็นไว้ในหน้า 268 ของหนังสือ "วิญญาณกับจักรวาล" ซึ่งตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2540(ค.ศ.1997)ว่าหินรูปหน้าและปิรามิดนี้น่าจะเป็นการกระทำของมนุษย์บนดาวอังคาร จุดประสงค์ก็เพื่อที่เก็บหลักฐานของพวกเขาไว้ให้เรา เหตุผลก็คือเมื่อพวกเขายังมีชีวิตอยู่นั้นเป็นไปได้ว่าเขาศึกษาได้ว่าวันหนึ่งโลกก็จะมีคนอยู่เหมือนพวกเขาในขณะที่สภาพบนดาวอังคารจะเปลี่ยนไปจนไม่เหลือสิ่งมีชีวิตอยู่แล้ว พวกเขารู้ว่าเมื่อมนุษย์เจริญขึ้นมากเราต้องส่งยานไปดาวอังคารซึ่งอยู่ใกล้โลกมากที่สุด ยานคงถูกส่งไปถ่ายรูปก่อน แล้วจึงจะส่งคนไปลง เขาจึงสลักหินรูปหน้าที่แหงนขึ้นเพื่อดึงดูดความสนใจของมนุษย์ให้สำรวจบริเวณนั้นให้มาก ดาวอังคารถึงจะเล็กกว่าโลกแต่ก็กว้างใหญ่มาก เขาทำรูปหน้าให้เราดูเพื่อเราจะได้ไม่เที่ยวไปลงสำรวจโดยไม่มีจุดหมาย คล้าย เขาจะพูดว่า

"เพื่อนร่วมสุริยจักรวาลที่รัก จงมาสำรวจบริเวณนี้ให้มาก เราเก็บหลักฐานไว้ให้ในปิรามิดที่อยู่ใกล้ ๆ ...ขอจงโชคดี"

เมื่อทำรูปหน้าเพื่อดึงดูดแล้ว เขาก็สลักหินอีกเป็นรูปทรงปิรามิด ไว้ใกล้ ๆ กับหินรูปใบหน้าแล้วเขาก็เก็บหลักฐานไว้ในปิรามิด เหตุที่ทำเป็นรูปทรงปิรามิดเพราะมันจะทนต่อการหักพังไปตามกาลเวลา เพราะฐานกว้าง ในขณะที่ยอดแหลมก็เพื่อไม่ให้ผงฝุ่นปกปิดมันได้ง่ายเมื่อเวลาผ่านไป เพราะเราจะพบว่าบนโลกเรานั้นเมืองเก่า ๆ ไม่กี่พันปีจะถูกทับถมด้วยฝุ่นดินเสียจนหมด หินที่ใช้สลักคงเป็นหินแข็งเช่นหินแกรนิต ผู้เขียนเชื่อว่าก่อน ค.ศ.2050 มนุษย์ส่งคนไปลงที่ดาวอังคารแน่นอนแล้วเขาจะพบสิ่งที่ผู้เขียนทำนายไว้

ภาพหน้าคนและปิรามิดนี้มีนักวิชาการต่างประเทศสนใจและตีความแตกต่างกันออกไป แต่ของผู้เขียนตีความแตกต่างไปจากทุกคนผู้สนใจอาจจะคนดูทาง Internet โดยค้นหาที่ Face on Mars และ Pyramid on Mars

หินรูปหน้าคนแหงนขึ้น ถ่ายต่างเวลากัน เพราะฝุ่นบนดาวอังคารคงมีมากเหมือนบนโลกของเรา ใบหน้าจึงดูเปลี่ยนไป แต่ดูรูปทรงแล้วไม่น่าจะเป็นหินเกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติ

ภาบบริเวณที่มีหินรูปหน้าและทรงปิรามิด ใบหน้าอยู่ด้านบน ส่วนปิรามิดใหญ่อยู่ล่างขวา ภาพปิรามิด จะเห็นว่ามีร่องรอยว่าฐานด้าน ล่างและด้านซ้ายนั้น เป็นเส้นตรง ซึ่งไม่น่าจะเป็นสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติ
